International Women's Day events March 8
March 6, 2012
Join Women's & Gender Studies students in celebrating International Women's Day 2012. In honor of the day, two
events will be held Thursday, March 8:
- International Women's Day Gathering, 4:30 – 5:25 p.m., at the Ice Arch in the Cornerstone Plaza.
- Screening of Grace Paley: Collected Shorts, 5:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m., in Schaible Auditorium.
International Women's Day has been observed since the early 1900s and is currently an official holiday celebrated annually, on March 8 in many countries around the world.
The UAF WGS 201 Intro to Women's and Gender Studies students are hosting a gathering around the ice arch in Cornerstone Plaza, joining the global effort to bring women and men around the world together to recognize and applaud the achievements of women and to work for an end to gender inequalities. This celebratory rally will feature guest speakers from throughout the Fairbanks community.
Following the rally the UAF Women's Center and the Farthest North Jewish Film Festival will screen the film Grace Paley: Collected Shorts. Paley's work combines the personal with the political befitting a woman whose private views on world events led her to take public action (from the film website).
