Fairbanks-born violist Sam Quintal will get the chance to perform for his hometown when his ensemble, the Jasper String Quartet, visits the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus this summer.
“I am so happy to return home to Fairbanks for this performance with my quartet. This has been a dream of mine for some time now and I thank UAF Summer Sessions for making it possible,” Quintal said.
The quartet’s chamber music concert will begin at 8 p.m. June 1 in Davis Concert Hall.
The Jasper String Quartet is the quartet-in-residence at Yale School of Music. Praised by critics for brilliant expression and interplayer communication, members point to their close relationships as a key to success: J and Rachel Freivogel are husband and wife, and all four members, including Quintal and violinist Sae Niwa, are close friends, living within a block of one another in New Haven, Conn. Their success includes such accolades as the Yale School of Music’s Horatio Parker Memorial Prize, the grand prize and audience prize at the 2008 Plowman Chamber Music Competition, the grand prize at the 2008 Coleman Competition and numerous other awards.
Advance tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for senior citizens and students. Day-of-show tickets are $15. Tickets are available by calling 907-474-7021 or 866-404-7021 toll-free, or by visiting Room 216 in the Eielson Building on the UAF campus. Credit card payment is available.
