Joseph selected as one of Girl Scout's Women of Distinction
April 10, 2012
The Farthest North Girl Scout Council designed an award a decade ago that honors women
who have made highly visible, as well as silent, contributions to the Fairbanks community. Each
May, the Girl Scout council recognizes three women, at a banquet in their honor, who
make our city a better place to live and who are positive role models for young girls.
Bernice Joseph, Vice Chancellor for Rural, Community and Native Education, was selected
as one of three who will receive this year's award.
Shelby Nelson, a former longtime executive at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, and Karen
Perdue, president of the state hospital and nursing home association, will also receive
this award.
The Annual Women of Distinction banquet will be held at 6 p.m., May 3 at the Westmark
Gold Room. For more information visit the Girl Scout's Farthest North Council website.
