At the symposium, scientists will present their local research to fishermen, students and the residents of Kodiak Island. Topics will include how Kodiak’s marine environment and resources function, change and affect the lives and livelihoods of Kodiak residents.

Conference coordinators Kate Wynne and Julie Matweyou said the talks and posters will address physical oceanography, habitat, crabs, fish, sea birds and killer whales, as well as resource management and use by humans.

There is no charge to attend the five-day symposium, but participants are encouraged to register for the event.

The symposium is being presented by the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program. See registration and symposium details at alaskaseagrant.org/kamss.
