KUAC’s 30th poster features Payer’s ‘Ford Dump Truck’
February 22, 2013
Payer will sign posters at a reception from noon to 4 p.m. at Well Street Art Company at 1304 Well Street, off Phillips Field Road in Fairbanks.
“Ford Dump Truck” is a high-dynamic-range photograph of a vintage vehicle with its Alaska license plate rusting artfully, like the truck itself. Payer’s unique outlook on Interior Alaska is shaped by three decades living, working and photographing there.
“There’s nothing like taking a photo of an old piece of machinery and bringing it to life, showing its detail and age,” said Payer, who then blends his photography with digital art. “That’s when the magic happens and I can create something truly unique.”
That harmony was a factor in the decision made by KUAC’s volunteer selection committee of artists and art experts, who chose the image from more than 100 pieces submitted by 40 artists. Committee members were: UA Museum of the North fine arts curator Mareca Guthrie, watercolor/multimedia artist Carol Wilbur, art appraiser Jinx Whitaker, Fairbanks Arts Association director June Rogers, sculptor and UAF art professor Da-ka-xeen Mehner, UAF Rasmuson Library graphic designer Dixon Jones and 2012 poster artist Ken Whitten.
KUAC TV’s annual television spring fundraiser runs March 2-17, 2013. Gifts to KUAC can be made at the poster-signing event, as well as online at www.kuac.org or by calling 907-474-7491.
