flyer with same info as announcementA workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m.-noon will focus on the communal and personal understanding of land acknowledgment. In a conversation-based facilitation by Melissa Shaginoff, this workshop will explore the simple and complex components of acknowledgment from both an institutional and Indigenous perspective. Space is limited to 15 registrants for this one-time workshop.

Land acknowledgment opens a space with gratefulness and allows public recognition of the Indigenous people whose traditional lands we stand upon. Land acknowledgment honors the past and present Indigenous stewardship of the natural world. It also offers respect and visibility for the histories, contributions, innovations and contemporary perspectives of Indigenous people. Participants will learn how to create their own meaningful and authentic acknowledgment.

Registrants will receive Zoom log-in information one day prior to the event.

This event is full. Please contact Sheena Tanner at sctanner@alaska.edu to be added to a contact list for any future workshops.

This workshop is sponsored by the UAF College of Rural and Community Development and is part of UAF's 2020 Indigenous Peoples' Day activities.
