Lecture series explores Alaska’s lands and seas

Summer Sessions at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in cooperation with Alaska Sea Grant College Program and the Alaska Cooperative Extension Service, will host the Alaska Land and Sea Lecture Series Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in O’Neill Building Room 201 on the UAF campus.
The series, running through Aug. 14, features presentations from Sea Grant and Cooperative Extension professionals on topics relating to Alaska’s land and seascape. Lectures are free and open to the public.
Following is a schedule of lectures for the remainder of the summer:
June 5: “Common Garden Pests and How to Manage Them” with Taylor Maida
June 12: “Building with Hardwood Logs in Alaska” with Val Barber
June 19: “The Underwater World of the Aleutian Islands” with Reid Brewer
June 26: “What is Alaska Sea Grant Doing in West Africa” with Kate Wynne
July 10: “Sustainability Activities and Ways you can Get Involved” with Michele Hebert
July 17: “Alaska Coastal Sentries, Robot Watch for Submarine Invasion by Alien Creatures” with Gary Freitag
July 24: “Thar She Blows! Whale Research Around the Emerald Isle” with Bree Witteveen
July 31: “From Your Garden to Your Table” with Heidi Rader
Aug. 7: “Chickens: The Down and Dirty of Keeping a Small Laying Flock in Alaska” with Mara Bacsujlaky and Stephen Brown
Aug. 14: “Fish Waste Utilization Projects in Bristol Bay” with Izetta Chambers
