Lecture series invites participants to ‘Discover Alaska’

Summer Sessions at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in cooperation with the Northern Alaska Environmental Center, is hosting the Discover Alaska Lecture Series Wednesdays at 7 p.m. through Aug. 3, with the exception of July 20.
Guest lecturers will offer an in-depth look at various aspects of Alaska. The lectures will take place in Schaible Auditorium on the UAF campus and are free and open to the public.
Following is a schedule of lectures for the rest of the summer:
June 15—“Climate Change” with John Walsh
June 22—“The Changing Arctic Landscape” with Ken Tape
June 29—“All About Alaska Blueberries” with Pat Holloway and Tom Kuhn
July 6—“Rebirth in the Aleutians: Kasatochi Survivors—Insects after the Eruption” with Derek Sikes
July 13—“Thrice Warmed: Heating with Wood” with John Davies and Colin Craven
July 27—“Building Community Resilience and Self-Reliance through Local Food” with Lissa Hughes
Aug. 3—“Ethnobotany: Traditional Uses and Knowledge of Native Plants” with Amy Breen and Rose Meier
