The nation’s capital won’t seem so far away when Alaska Public Radio Network’s Libby Casey returns to Fairbanks to talk about her work covering news from Washington D.C. Her free lecture, “The View From Washington,” begins at 7 p.m. Monday, July 12 in Schaible Auditorium at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Casey, who spent more than a decade in Fairbanks reporting for local public radio station KUAC and teaching radio production at UAF, moved to Washington in 2008. During her time in Fairbanks she covered everything from the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race to the service of soldiers in Iraq.

Casey is APRN’s Washington D.C. correspondent and a regular guest host of C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. Her stories have appeared on “All Things Considered,” “Morning Edition,” “The World,” and the CBC. Since moving to Washington she’s discussed Alaska politics on “The Today Show,” CNN, MSNBC and Fox News.

Casey has earned multiple journalistic honors, including three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and the Alaska Press Club’s Public Service Award for a series profiling fallen soldiers in Iraq. Her coverage of the Yukon Quest earned a national Silver Reel from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters. She has also earned numerous sports reporting awards from the Alaska Press Club.

Casey’s lecture is presented by UAF Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning. For information call 907-474-7021 or visit www.uaf.edu/summer.
