Jack Townshend, 85, died Aug. 13 of cancer in Fairbanks. Townshend was an employee with the USGS for more than 60 years and is the namesake of the Jack Townshend College International Geophysical Observatory and Townshend Point, both located at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. A memorial was held at Charles Davis Concert Hall Monday, Aug. 21, 2012.
