Marnie Kaler will be joining UAF as the new associate vice chancellor for enrollment management. She has more than 16 years of experience in higher education, and is familiar with the University of Alaska system, having worked in UAA's tech prep program, as the director of admissions, advising and recruitment at UAS, and as interim director of new student recruitment at UAA. She'll assume her full duties at UAF on April 5.

Originally from Maine, Kaler was most recently at the University of Maine at Machias, where she served as dean of students and admissions.

Kaler's experience includes developing strategic planning documents, working with institutional research, and utilizing data to drive change and design new creative ways to recruit students. She has a special interest in integrating equity and inclusion into higher education, such as working with the Passamaquoddy tribal government in Downeast Maine for a translated land acknowledgement, serving on a diversity and inclusion council, and expanding opportunities for nontraditional students.

Kaler has an A.A.S. degree in computer science from Andover College, a B.S. in technology from UAA, and a Master of Public Administration degree from UAS. She hopes to one day complete her degree path by earning degrees from all three universities in the statewide system.

In addition to her commitment to higher education, Kaler also has a love of weird old cars. Currently she is working to restore a 1973 VW Thing named Max. She will be coming to Fairbanks with her partner, Jim, son Katahdin, and Max in tow.
