The Native Art Center and the UAF Art Department present a public lecture and art exhibit by visiting artist Marty Two Bulls, Jr.  from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 in the Fine Arts Complex, room 301. His exhibit can be viewed from 9 a.m. -5 p.m. in the UAF Art Gallery room 313. Nov. 12-22.

While in Alaska, Marty has created art, collaborated in art studios, presented regular art studio sessions, participated in community activities such as the Alaska Federation of Natives convention, performed in “Indigenize It Night,” and was an invited speaker at a local school district art teachers’ in-service training.

Sponsored by the Rasmuson Foundation Artist Residence Program, Marty Two Bulls is one of four artists from the Lower 48 who has recently spent eight weeks in Alaska.  In the second phase of the program in 2014, four Alaskan artists will spend eight-week residencies at host arts centers in the Lower 48. This project builds on the success of an earlier five-year collaboration of the Rasmuson Foundation and United States Artists Alaska Artist-in-Residence (AK AIR).

The current program is one element of the Foundation’s Arts & Culture Initiative, a commitment of $8.5 million to the arts over the next four years.  The initiative, announced in December 2012, is designed to strengthen cultural institutions across the state, encourage the development of new work by creative artists, and increase public access to and participation in cultural experiences.
