May 3 ceremony marks 100 years since UAF's creation

April 19, 2017

Brief speeches, a re-enactment and a birthday cake on May 3 will mark the 100th anniversary of UAF's creation.

Everyone is invited to the ceremony, which will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. in Centennial Square, between Wickersham Hall and the Gruening Building.

In April 1917, the Alaska Territorial Legislature passed a bill to create the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines. On May 3, 1917, Territorial Gov. John Strong signed the bill.

On May 3, 2017, UAF will re-enact that signing. Chancellor Dana Thomas, UAF history Professor Terrence Cole, UAF Alumni Association Vice President Peter Van Flein and others will reflect on the moment's significance.

RSVP by April 27 and find an event map online.
