UAF alumna Meagan Olsen has been named an assistant coach for the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team. She starts in her role Monday, July 1.

Olsen graduated from UAF in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. A Fairbanks native, she is coach Brian Scott’s second assistant coach hire since he became head coach in 2015. Olsen replaces Robbie Berrett, who resigned earlier this month. Olsen’s main responsibilities will include defense, recruiting and game management.

“I feel very fortunate to have Meagan rejoin our program as an assistant coach,” Scott said on Wednesday. “As an athlete, Meagan exemplified what we wanted out of our student-athletes. She was diligent in her studies, came to practice ready to work hard and was always hungry to learn as much as possible. I expect she will be able to inspire the same qualities in our student-athletes as a coach.”

Olsen returns to the Nanooks after serving as the team’s volunteer assistant for the 2017 season. Prior to coaching, Olsen was a member of the Alaska Nanooks volleyball team from 2012-2016, serving as co-captain for the 2016 season. She was also selected three times for the Great Northwest Academic Conference All-Academic team.

“It is very exciting to have someone that is from Fairbanks to work with the team,” Scott concluded. “Meagan knows how much volleyball means to the community and will help us strengthen our ties to our alumni and our faithful Fairbanks crowd.”
