Media registration is open for the 2016 Arctic Science Summit Week and Arctic Observing
Summit, which will be held March 12-18 at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in Fairbanks,
Alaska.
ASSW is the annual gathering of international organizations involved in Arctic research.
The event, which has been held annually since 1999, brings together science and policy
leaders from academia, government, industry and nongovernmental organizations.
The Arctic Observing Summit meets biennially to assure that adequate observations
and measurements of the Arctic environment are being collected and shared for the
mutual benefit of all nations.
Nearly 1,000 participants from about 30 countries are expected at the 2016 ASSW meeting,
which will include more than 60 open working sessions, public events and tours. Members
of the media also will have the opportunity to attend special briefings with leading
scientists on a variety of Arctic issues. The week will also include meetings of the
Arctic Council Senior Arctic Officials and the Model Arctic Council.
The deadline for media registration is Feb. 12, 2016, at https://assw2016.org/news/media. Journalists will also have the opportunity to apply for one of five journalism fellowships
offered during the conference. More details on the fellowships will be available soon.
