University of Alaska Fairbanks supporters Bill and Nancy Mendenhall have established a student travel endowment fund in the College of Engineering and Mines.
The new William and Nancy Mendenhall CEM Student Travel Endowment Fund will provide travel support to engineering students participating in professional development activities, such as engineering student competitions, conference presentations and workshops. The endowment complements the recently established William W. Mendenhall Civil Engineering Scholarship, established by the Friends of Bill Mendenhall to honor him for his decades of service to the university and countless engineering students learning under his guidance.
Nancy Mendenhall earned a degree in elementary education from UAF in 1953 and was that year's winner of the Marion Frances Boswell Award, which honors an outstanding graduating woman. Bill Mendenhall served as a engineering and surveying professor from 1955 until his retirement in 1987, after which he continued to teach part time through 2005. In 2014, Bill received the UAF Meritorious Service Award. The Mendenhalls' three children all earned college degrees, two from the UAF College of Engineering and Mines.
