Men's basketball ends 2012 with pair against Multnomah

The Alaska men's basketball team closes out non-conference play as well as the year 2012 this Monday and Tuesday when it hosts Multnomah at the Patty Center.

Both games will tip off at 7:30 p.m. and it is part of the two-day double-header with the women's basketball team. Monday's game will count towards the men's record, while Tuesday will serve as an exhibition match-up. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 18 and discounts will be made for alumni, military and seniors. The ticket price is good for admission into both men's and women's game as part of the double-header.

The Nanooks (5-4, 1-1 GNAC) return from 16 days off after completing the fall semester and final exams. Last time out, Alaska never trailed and downed Montana State Billings 80-73 on Dec. 1 at home. In the win, Alaska shot just shy of 57 percent, which was the highest shooting percentage in two years. Five different players scored in double figures and it used a 12-2 run late in the first half to build a 35-20 lead and held of MSUB late in the second.

On the season, junior guard Pat Voeut (Bellingham, Wash./Communication) leads the team and ranked tied for 16th in the GNAC with 13.3 points per game while also placing second in the league with 5.2 assists per outing. Senior guard Dominique Brinson (Juneau, Alaska/Accounting) is the second-leading free throw shooter (.926) and averages 12.3 points to rank 23rd in the conference.

Other statistical leaders include junior forward Andrew Kelly (Gilbert, Ariz./Justice Studies, Law & Society) and junior center Sergej Pucar (Belgrade, Serbia/Business administration). Kelly is fourth in the GNAC with 1.9 steals per game while Pucar is sixth with 7.3 rebounds and 10th with 0.9 blocks per outing.

The Lions enter Monday's contest with a 6-9 overall record on the year. Multnomah is back in action after taking the last nine days off. Back on Dec. 8, MU defeated North Adelaide (Australia) for the second time in five days with an 81-67 victory. The Lions wrapped up an eight-game home stand and will be competing in a road match-up for the first time since Nov. 13.

Multnomah averaged 75.2 points per game while allowing 79.0 points. Austin Hodges leads the squad with 21.1 points per game while also dishing out 3.5 dimes per contest. David Walker is second on the team with 15.7 points and leads in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game. Steven Sansone also averaged double-figure scoring with 11.5 points to go with 3.0 assists while Steve Bustrin is leading assister with an impressive 6.4 dimes per game.
