Men's basketball sets sights on rivalry rematch at UAA

A rivalry rematch in Anchorage
The Nanooks round out its three-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference road trip this Saturday when they face their arch-rival Alaska Anchorage at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex on Saturday night at 7 p.m. Live stats and live video are both available through Stretch Internet and the game can also be heard live on KCBF 820 AM.

Nanooks at a glance
Alaska currently sits 13-8 on the season with an 8-5 mark in GNAC play following a road sweep last week at Western Oregon and Saint Martin's. It now has two conference road sweeps this season and has won the season series against three league foes.

Dominique Brinson leads the team with 13.1 points per game while Pat Voeut averages 12.0 points and 5.1 assists. Sergej Pucar also scores 10.7 points while leading the squad with 7.3 rebounds. Andrew Kelly also is not far off the rebounding lead with 7.0 boards per outing. Alaska scores 73.4 points per game and ranks fourth in scoring defense with 68.5 points allowed per game. It is also third in rebounding margin (+4.2), assists (16.6) and assist/turnover ratio (1.1).

Another Road Sweep
Alaska earned a sweep on the road last week with an 80-77 come-from-behind win over Western Oregon Thursday and a wild 68-67 overtime win Saturday at Saint Martin's. The Nanooks trailed by 14 points in the first half but used a 62-percent shooting half in the second to rally back for the three-point victory. Two nights later, SMU battled back to force overtime but Sergej Pucar scored all of Alaska's 10 overtime points in the final 2:12 of the extra period to help the 'Nooks complete the sweep.

GNAC Co-Player of the Week
Alaska had its fourth GNAC Red Lion Player of the Week honor of the season Monday when Sergej Pucar was named Co-Player of the Week along with WWU's Richard Woodworth. Pucar led the team with 18.0 points per game, including a season-high 21 in Saturday's win at Saint Martin's. He shot 59 percent for the week and drained four three pointers while also contributing 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

How We Rank in the GNAC
Dominique Brinson ranks 13th in the league in scoring while Pat Voeut is 19th in the same category. Sergej Pucar is fourth in rebounding, tied for sixth in three-point percentage (.453) and 11th in blocks (0.8). Voeut also ranks second in assists, fifth in steals (1.5) and sixth in free throw percentage (.836). Brinson places fourth in free throw percentage (.860) and fifth in three pointers made (2.2). Andrew Kelly is fifth in both rebounding (6.5), eighth in blocks (0.9) and 15th in steals (1.3). In addition, Ronnie Baker is tied for 10th in steals (1.4) while Stefan Tica is tied for 12th in treys made (1.7).

Scouting the Seawolves
Alaska Anchorage is coming off a road split last week as it enters Saturday night with a 15-6 overall record and 8-5 mark in GNAC games. UAA surrendered a 60-52 defeat at Saint Martin's Thursday before coming back Saturday to rally for a 79-73 win at Western Oregon. The Seawolves average 75.7 points per game while allowing just 68.4 points to their opponents, which ranks third in the GNAC. They are also first in assists (18.6), second in three-point shooting (.408) and assist/turnover ratio (1.4) and third in shooting defense (.423).

Kyle Fossman ranks sixth in the conference in scoring (15.6) while Teancum Stafford is 11th in scoring (13.6). Liam Gibcus rounds out the top 10 in rebounding (6.5) while leading the league in shooting (.576). Fossman is also third in free throw percentage (.869) and ninth from three-point range (.447) and Colton Lauwers is seventh from the line (.824) whileChristian Leckband is fifth from beyond the arc (.460).
