Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series readings Nov. 11
November 4, 2011
Every year, the Midnight Sun Visiting Writers Series brings a number of writers of national significance to Alaska. Through readings,
lectures, and individual meetings with local aspiring authors, poets and playwrights,
these gifted and unique writers engage in a crucial artistic and cultural exchange.
The next reading in the series will be a night of fiction and poetry, read by our
own UAF MFA faculty, MFA graduate candidates, and creative writing undergraduates,
7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, in the Wood Center Ballroom.
- David Crouse is an award-winning short story writer and teacher. He became a faculty member in the MFA Program in January 2007. He is the author of Copycats and The Man Back There.
- Chris Malmberg is an MFA Candidate who will defend his thesis, a collection of short stories, in spring of 2012.
- Elizabeth Sharrock is an MFA Candidate who will defend her thesis, a manuscript of poetry, on the day of this reading. Rachel Elmer and Grace McCarthy, both students in Crouse’s undergraduate creative writing class this semester, will read poems.
- Heather Warren, also a student in the class, will read a short story.
Since the 1970’s, the Midnight Sun Writers Series has brought many of the nation’s finest writers to Alaska, and the writers scheduled to appear this year will add to that proud tradition. All Midnight Sun Visiting Writers readings are free and open to all.
