The University of Alaska Museum of the North will host a celebration of life in honor of longtime docent Barbara Gorman on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the auditorium. The public is invited to attend.

Gorman was 92 when she died on Tuesday, Jan. 16. The museum was one of her most beloved places. She served as a docent for more than 20 years, leading tours for area school children.

Gorman came to Alaska in the 1960s and dedicated her life to learning and sharing her enthusiasm for discovery. She was a longtime school librarian and a dedicated rock and fossil collector. She participated in many paleontology digs with the museum and also enjoyed traveling. She is named on more than 150 objects in the museum’s permanent collections.
