March 23, 2021

The next Nanook Brotherhood Talk will be held Wednesday, March 24, at 6 p.m in the Schaible Auditorium.

Spotlight speakers will be Evon Peter, former vice chancellor for rural, community, and Native education; Carlton Hautala, academic advisor for rural student services; and Rodolfo Garcia, ASUAF senator. They will discuss the values that drive the Nanook Brotherhood Project, or NBP, including service, community, leadership and professional development.

NBP is open to students of all ethnic backgrounds and serves as a gateway to formal and informal support systems on campus. Founding member, James Little said NBP is where students “push each other."

"When someone believes in you, that is powerful," he said. "That pushes you.” NBP helps reinforce positive role models, rethink institutional systems and support young people of color.

Students interested in participating in NBP are encouraged to apply online. For more information, email Katelin Avery at ktavery@alaska.edu.
