National search for head hockey coach
March 12, 2018
The Department of Athletics has opened a national search to permanently fill the position
of head coach for the men’s ice hockey team. Assistant coach Lance West was appointed
interim head coach shortly after the departure of head coach Dallas Ferguson in July
2017. West’s interim title will remain through May.
Since taking over the program last July, West led the 2017-2018 Nanooks to an 11-22-3
overall mark on the season and 9-17-2-1 in conference play. The team collected its
eighth-straight Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup, while 16 players were named to the
Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s all-academic team, four players were named
WCHA scholar-athletes and two earned all-WCHA honors.
