Lydia Clayton is the new agriculture and horticulture agent for the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service on the Kenai Peninsula.
Previously, Clayton worked as an Extension educator with the University of Idaho, where she focused on home and commercial horticulture and small farm programming. She earned a master’s degree in plant science from the University of Idaho.
Clayton is enthusiastic about her move to the Peninsula and future collaborations with local and regional agencies to assist small-acreage producers. She looks forward to working with the Master Gardener program throughout her district.
“The Peninsula is well poised for growth in local food production,” she said.
Clayton enjoys fly-fishing and vegetable gardening, and she wants to explore fishing on the Peninsula.
She welcomes programming ideas and suggestions. Clayton works out of the Kenai Peninsula District Extension office at 43961 K-Beach Road in Soldotna. Contact her at lclayton2@alaska.edu or 262-5824 and follow her horticulture Facebook page at www.facebook.com/kenaigardens.
