Falk Huettmann, a professor at UAF’s Institute of Arctic Biology, is co-editor of
a comprehensive new book by Springer International Publishing about the Hindu Kush-Himalaya
region in central Asia.
“Hindu Kush-Himalaya Watersheds Downhill: Landscape Ecology and Conservation Perspectives,” describes the myriad components of the region, which includes a watershed that runs
from the very roof of the planet — Mount Everest — and supports a human population
of over 2 billion people. Co-edited with Ganga Ram Regmi, it analyzes challenges,
failures and successes in efforts to conserve the region, watersheds, and its indigenous
plants and animals.
The book’s 45 chapters, contributed by a variety of local and international experts,
include advice about wildlife management, conservation, sustainability and stability
in the region.
