New consolidated fee structure begins

July 20, 2020

Tori Tragis

This fall, UAF is moving to a consolidated fee structure that will simplify your student bill. There will now be a single line item called “Fairbanks Consolidated Fee” and/or “Rural Campus Consolidated Fee,” which includes all student activity and program fees in one lump sum, instead of many individual fees. Students at the Fairbanks campus, eCampus and the Community and Technical College will see a charge for $50 per credit. Students enrolled at a College of Rural Community and Development campus will see a charge of $20 per credit. The services this fee covers are listed online .

You will see this change reflected on your student bill prior to the fall semester. All students will now see the same charges on their account and have access to similar services, including student mental health services, ASUAF benefits and student programming.

The benefits of a consolidated fee include, but are not limited to:

  • Students can more easily estimate costs based on the number of enrolled credit hours

  • The fee is applied at 1 credit hour equitably and consistently

  • The model is predictable and cost competitive

  • Fees are more easily communicated to students, faculty and staff

  • Simplified model allows for streamlined administration

This recommendation was made by the UAF Tuition and Fee Committee , which included student representatives, and was supported by Chancellor Dan White . A student forum on this topic was conducted by Vice Chancellor Keith Champagne on May 21.

We look forward to showing UAF students a more streamlined bill, and will continue to solicit input on student tuition and fees over the course of the year.
