Nominations open for adjunct, emeriti, honorary degree and People's Endowment awards
December 10, 2018
The Provost's Office announces four calls for nominations and one call for proposals.
The nominations are for the newly established Regent's Adjunct Award, and for the
annual honorary degree, emeriti and Usibelli awards. The call for proposal is for
the 2018-2019 People's Endowment award.
Regent's Adjunct Award (due by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21)
Eligibility: All adjunct faculty members are eligible as long as they have taught a minimum of
1 credit in the semester they will receive the award. Adjunct faculty members who
have received the award within the previous three years are ineligible. Each of the
three main campuses may nominate up to two semifinalists (which would include the
rural campuses in their area). Any nominated candidate who is not selected shall remain
nominated for the subsequent semester as long as they are teaching in that subsequent
semester. Up to three awards each semester may be awarded.
Nominations and supporting documents are to be sent to uaf-provost-awards@alaska.edu. To see nomination guidelines and regulations, please visit the UAF Office of the
Provost’s website here.
Honorary degree nominations (due by 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019)
Honorary degree recipients are selected one year in advance of awarding the degree.
Nominations may be submitted to the Office of the Provost at any time during the year.
Once a letter of nomination is received in the Provost's Office, a file for the candidate
is constructed. Each candidate file should contain an initial letter of nomination
and a minimum of three or four letters supporting the nomination. The person submitting
the initial letter of nomination should also include a curriculum vitae or biography
for the candidate. Honorary degree nominations for Commencement 2020 must be received
by Friday, Jan. 31, 2019.

Emeriti nominations for Commencement 2019 (due by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2019)
Nominations for emeritus/emerita professor may originate from the dean or director
with a support letter from senior faculty, or from faculty working through the unit
peer review committee. A confirmation of retirement/resignation in a form of official
letter is also required. Emeriti nominations for Commencement 2019 must be received
by January 31, 2019.

Emil Usibelli Award nominations (due by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2019)
The Emil Usibelli Distinguished Teaching, Research and Public Service Awards have
been presented annually to three faculty members each year since 1992. These three
$10,000 awards go to individuals who display extraordinary excellence in teaching,
research and public service — the areas representing the tripartite mission of the
University of Alaska Fairbanks. Individuals receiving the awards will be exemplary
in their contributions to the discovery, communication and use of knowledge. The deadline
for nominations for the 2019 Emil Usibelli Distinguished Teaching, Research and Service
Awards is Friday, Jan. 31, 2019.

People's Endowment 2018-2019 call for proposals (due by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2019)
The People’s Endowment Board at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is pleased to announce
the availability of funds for spring 2019.
The People’s Endowment was established at the UA Foundation in 1986 with the intent
to provide a source of funds for projects that will improve UAF but that would likely
remain unfunded due to institutional priorities. Grants are intended to be used for
a special project or to fill a critical need at UAF. Proposals will be accepted from
UAF faculty, staff and students. All proposals will be submitted to the People’s Endowment
Board for review and selection.
Deadline: The deadline for receipt of complete proposals is Friday, Jan. 31, 2019.
Proposals received after 5 p.m. of the deadline date will not be considered.
Maximum grant amount: $5,000. The board may fund more than one grant depending on
available funds and amounts requested. Requests for smaller amounts or partial funding
will be considered.
