Explore 'novel' ways of murder in Alaska and more

UAF Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free events this summer, including the following:
- On Wednesday, June 25, during the Discover Alaska Lecture, Leon Unruh, editor at the UAF Alaska Native Language Center and author of "Dog of the Afterworld," will talk about "Novel Ways of Murder in Alaska." The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
- On Thursday, June 26, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature Marc Brown and the Blues Crew. The Fairbanks band, which won the "best blues recording" category in the 2011 Native American Music Awards, has opened for some of the biggest acts to visit Alaska. The music begins at 7 p.m. in the Georgeson Botanical Garden.
- On Monday, July 7, the film "Arctic Son" will be shown at 7 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium. The film documents the struggles, hardships and triumphs experienced by Tom Irons and Jean Aspen as they find the true meaning of family values, inner courage and simple joy in the heart of the Brooks Range. Irons and Aspen will answer questions after the two-hour film.
- On Friday July 11, National Public Radio's Political Junkie will analyze key races in Alaska and across the country. It will include trademark features such as trivia quizzes, Scuttle Button puzzles and the back-and-forth between Ken Rudin and former NPR host Neal Conan. For tickets, call 474-7021.
