OIT to change antivirus programs

June 8, 2020

University Relations

Starting Monday, June 8, OIT will begin changing antivirus solutions. The changed is expected to reduce costs while improving service.

Symantec Endpoint Protection, or SEP, will be uninstalled from university-owned computers. Once the uninstall is complete, Microsoft Defender will automatically begin protecting Windows computers, and Jamf Protect will start remotely installing on macOS computers. Restarting the computer may be required to complete the transition. OIT will contact you to help manually uninstall it if SEP fails to uninstall on your computer.

If you are working off-campus, the uninstall will happen once you are connected to the VPN.

If you have a personally owned device with UA’s Symantec Endpoint Protection installed, OIT recommends that you uninstall it as soon as possible. SEP will not continue to update after June 30, so your computer will not be protected.

OIT recommends the following anti-virus software options for personal use.
