Marshall will talk at 6:30 p.m. about the hay- and wood-based culture of the Maramures Mountains and his recent visit there. He says the area has a vibrant culture with plentiful woodcarvings, wood shingle roofs, farming and folk art. The region is known for its wooden churches with steep shingle roofs and tall steeples.

OneTree Alaska will host the lecture in its STEAM Studio in Suite 230. Marshall will also display his latest wood art, a bench made from a Scots pine tree planted next to Les and Teri Viereck’s home near UAF more than 50 years ago. Refreshments will be served.
