Owen Guthrie was recently named director of UAF eCampus. He will oversee and manage all eCampus operations and report to the provost and executive vice chancellor.

A lifelong Fairbanks resident with innovative ideas and an extensive knowledge of online learning, Guthrie is passionate about student success as well as quality teaching and learning experiences. His career with UAF began in 1984 at Tanana Valley Community College. Since then, he has found his place working at the intersection of higher education and technology in service of teaching, learning and research.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University in wildlife biology and a Master of Arts degree in military history from Norwich University. For the past six years, Guthrie has taught online pedagogy and instructional design for the Master of Education degree in online innovation and design at the School of Education. He has enjoyed working as an instructional designer and as associate director of online programs at UAF eCampus.

“Owen’s creative thinking and his drive to make a positive difference are key strengths. eCampus is already leading the way in online education in the nation and is poised to grow further with Owen’s collaborative leadership,” said Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Anupma Prakash.
