Memorial Stair Climb event scheduled for 9/11

August 18, 2021

University Relations

This year the local fire departments are looking to host a major memorial event for the 20th anniversary of the 911 terrorist attacks.  Each year the local fire departments hold a memorial ceremony to honor the fallen firefighters from New York at the World Trade Center.  However, on the 20th-anniversary, members of the University Fire Department and other local departments are reaching out to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Fairbanks North Star Borough communities to join them in a memorial stair climb at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks at 9 a.m. on September 11, 2021.

Registration is OPEN! Please join University Fire Department members along with Fairbanks area firefighters, law enforcement, local officials and the public as we pay tribute to our fallen heroes from that fateful day 20 years ago. Proceeds will be going to the Alaska State Fallen Firefighters Fund.

The Tanana Valley Chapter of the Alaska State Firefighters Association, along with community volunteers and area sponsors have organized the Great Alaska 9/11 Stair Climb. This event is an untimed, fun, family-friendly event that allows participants to pay tribute to the firefighters and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001 by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Through firefighter and community participation, we can ensure that each of the 343 firefighters are honored and the world knows we will never forget.

Registration for the first 350 participants will be guaranteed a t-shirt.  Cost for registration is:
