The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host a panel discussion, “Pebble Mine: How Researchers Tackle Tough Questions,” Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. in the Wood Center Ballroom on the UAF campus.

The panel will include experts in a broad range of disciplines and will examine how researchers and members of the public can inform themselves about the Pebble Mine project. The discussion will not debate the merits of the project itself, but will offer people the tools to make their own decisions.

The panel discussion is the second in a series of research seminars sponsored by the UAF Northern Studies program and the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections at Rasmuson Library. Panelist will include Milo Adkison from the UAF School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, mining engineer Gang Chen, Alaska Department of Fish and Game subsistence specialist Davin Holen. Oscar Kawagley of the Alaska Native Knowledge Network, UAF political science professor Jerry McBeath and Rainer Newberry of the UAF geology and geophysics department.

The event is free and open to the public.

ADDITIONAL CONTACTS: Mary Ehrlander, director of the UAF Northern Studies program, at 907-474-6556 or mfehrlander@alaska.edu.
