Pesticide applicators may work toward renewing their certification during a March 5 conference in Anchorage.

The Alaska Certified Pesticide Applicator Conference will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room 107 of the University of Alaska Anchorage Gorsuch Commons. The state requires certification for anyone who acts as a pesticide consultant or engages in the commercial or contract use of a pesticide.

Presentations will highlight bedbugs, carpenter ants, sprayer calibration, label reading, urban forest pests, personal protective equipment and more.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service will host the annual conference in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Conservation. Participants receive 6 1/2 continuing education units toward their recertification.

A $50 fee includes lunch. Conference and registration information is linked at www.uaf.edu/ces. For more information, contact Extension research technician Janice Chumley at 907-262-5824 or jichumley@alaska.edu.
