Poets discuss Alaska Classics of poetry

Peggy Shumaker, teacher and author of poetry collections including “Blaze” and “Gnawed Bones,” as well as a book of lyrical non-fiction called “Just Breathe Normally,” will moderate a discussion led by poets Derick Burleson, Cynthia Hardy and Jeanne Clark, during the poetry installment of the Alaska Classics series held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 28.

Burleson is an associate professor of creative writing at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and author of “Never Night.” His first collection of poems, “Ejo: Poems, Rwanda 1991-94,” won the 2000 Felix Pollack Prize in Poetry.

Hardy is an associate professor of English at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and author of collections of poetry including “Beneath a Portrait of a Horse.”

Clark is creative writing faculty member at California State University, Chico and the author of the poem collections “Ohio Blue Tips” and “”Gorrill’s Orchard.” All Alaska Classics lectures will be held in the Schaible Auditorium on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.
