The 2010 Terris and Katrina Moore Prize has been awarded to faculty member Anupma
Prakash. The prize, set up by former UA President Terris Moore, is presented to a
deserving
Geophysical Institute researcher in recognition of the quality of his or her contributions to their field
of science. Prakash, a professor in the GI
Earth and Planetary Remote Sensing group, was nominated by her colleagues, and received the prize because of her leadership
in the emerging field of coal-fire research. Prakash is the first woman to be awarded
the Moore Prize.
Also, this past week, Prakash was honored at the UAF Faculty and Staff Authors’ Celebration
for her co-editorship of
Coal and Peat Fires: A Global Perspective. The Mather Library will be purchasing the ebook version, which will include multimedia
resources.
