RAHI applications are open
January 27, 2020
The application period for the Rural Alaska Honors Institute is now open. Applications are due by Sunday, March 1. The 2020 RAHI will be from May 26-July 10.
Rural Alaska Honors Institute is a competitive six-week college exploration program offered to Alaska Native and rural Alaska students with at least a 3.0 GPA following the completion of their junior or senior year of high school. During the program, approximately 50 students live on UAF's Troth Yeddha' campus and earn 8-11 credits in courses that cover a wide array of subjects from foundational writing and math to industry exploration through process technology. In addition to RAHI Traditional and RAHI Research, a new RAHI Teach program gives students a pathway into teaching in rural Alaska.
Weekends are spent adventuring in the interior and volunteering for local organizations.
The program is in its 38th year and has had nearly 1,800 participants. RAHI students average a 3.54 GPA while at RAHI and have gone on to earn over 1,120 degrees ranging from occupational endorsements to PhDs. Most are putting their education to work in Alaska.
The experience, including room and board and travel to and from Fairbanks, is free. Find more information and the application form online.
