The Fairbanks community can explore career and education opportunities in a wide range of health care areas on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the sixth annual Alaska Interior Medical Education Summit at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The event is free, but preregistration is required.

The UAF College of Natural Science and Mathematics, and Community and Technical College will host the summit from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Murie Building, 2090 Koyukuk Drive.

The summit is a great opportunity to explore traditional and emerging health careers. It is open to the public, particularly high school students, college students or those looking for a second career in health fields .

Health professionals will lead group discussions, panels and hands-on activities related to traditional, naturopathic, and Eastern medicine, nursing, biomedical research, dentistry, veterinary medicine, rural health care, EMT/Paramedic, pharmacy, X-ray and more.

In 2016, more than 200 students, presenters and vendors participated in AIMES. Carolyn Chapin, the college’s undergraduate student advisor, said the summit succeeds because it showcases such a diversity of jobs in the health care fields.

“While not everyone will end up going to medical school, this event show cases the incredible range of rewarding and satisfying opportunities in health care,” she said. “Our local, state and national presenters and student participation has increased over the past years to help this stellar event grow to what it is today.”
