Registration opens for master gardener conference
February 28, 2018
Registration is open for the Statewide Master Gardener Conference, scheduled for March
24 in Fairbanks.
The conference is open to all gardeners or prospective gardeners who are looking forward
to spring planting. Master Gardeners of the Tanana Valley will host the all-day event
at Pike’s Waterfront Lodge.
The keynote speaker will be Bob Bors, a northern fruit breeder and project leader
of the domestic fruit program at the University of Saskatchewan. He will talk about
northern fruit development, how to tend haskaps, or honeyberries, and fruit pruning
and training techniques. Other speakers will talk about wild mushrooms of the Interior,
changes at the Georgeson Botanical Garden, Coyote Gardens in Willow, and herbal tinctures
and concoctions.
The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Willow gardener Les Brake will give a
photo presentation on the wild flowers and wildlife of Africa during a 6:30 p.m. dinner
the night before. Registration for both events and conference details are available
