JR-13-3809-78 The annual Research Day event on April 30, showcased the high quality and opportunities for undergraduates to engage in hands-on research and scholarly activity.  This year Research Day integrated efforts from the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Research, the Honors Program and Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity.

UAF brought 120 local K-12  students to tour campus research facilities and the museum. Dozens of undergraduates had an opportunity to present poster or oral presentations, and attend a keynote address by John Walsh, Chief Scientist at the International Arctic Research Center.

The winners of the Undergraduate Research Symposium were:

  • 2nd prize: Bryant Hopkins for his presentation on "Phylogenectic appliactions for comparing United States Senators"

  • 3rd prize: Kyla Hovda for her presentation on "Applied undergraduate financial research"

John Walsh received the 2013 Research Lifetime Achievement Award at the 6th Annual Research Day.  The award given by the Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Alaska Fairbanks recognizes individuals for their “sustainable lifetime contribution to the Research and the University of Alaska.”
