Rogoff, Shields to headline UAF Arctic Day activities

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host its first Arctic Day events Thursday, Nov. 13, at various locations on the Fairbanks campus.

The events, designed to highlight the international importance of the Arctic and UAF's contributions to the world's understanding of the circumpolar North, are free and open to the public.

Arctic Day will kick off the previous day, Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m., in the Davis Concert Hall with a keynote address by Alaska Dispatch News publisher Alice Rogoff, who will speak about the role of the media in communicating the value of the Arctic.

On Thursday. Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. in Schaible Auditorium, Maj. Gen. Michael Shields of U.S. Army Alaska will speak about the Army's role in the changing Arctic. Other Thursday events include research and project displays from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Great Hall and an Arctic initiatives town hall at 1:15 p.m. in the Murie Building auditorium.
