Run to support Troth Yeddha' Legacy
August 20, 2015
The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host the fourth annual Troth Yeddha’ Run for
the Park Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Troth Yeddha' Park site, located between
the UA Museum of the North and the Reichardt Building on the University of Alaska
Fairbanks campus.
Registration for the 5K event is a $20 donation toward the Troth Yeddha' Legacy initiative and
free to university students with a UA ID. Runners may register by mail, at Beaver
Sports or at the office of the vice chancellor for rural, community and Native education,
located on the fourth floor of UAF’s Brooks Building. Registration on race day will
be from 10-10:30 a.m.
Centuries before it became home to an institution of higher learning, the ridge that
now is home to UAF was a known as Troth Yeddha' by the Lower Tanana Athabascans. Translated
into English, Troth Yeddha' means “Wild Potato Ridge.” The university has launched
the Troth Yeddha' Legacy initiative, which aims to raise funds to create the Troth
Yeddha Park and an indigenous studies center on the site.
