Lunch salon to discuss benefits of Arctic research

The International Arctic Research Center will hold its inaugural IARC Research Salon
Series on Thursday, Nov. 12, at noon in Akasofu Building 401.
The IARC Research Salons will be mind-opening intellectual discussions and community-building
interactions moderated by an inspiring IARC member. Salons will be held on the second Thursday
of every month.
The topic on Nov. 12 will be the societal benefits of Arctic research. The salon will
start with four 10-minute presentations by the panelists and end with 30 minutes of
discussion.
Panelists will be Elena Sparrow, research professor in soil microbiology and education
outreach director at IARC; Igor Polyakov, professor in oceanography at IARC; Michelle
Pope, executive officer at School of Natural Resources and Extension; and Janice Dawe,
assistant research professor in botany at SNRE. Sparrow will moderate the panel.
Coffee and tea will be served. Attendees are welcome to bring a quiet lunch.
