Satellites best for current weather information

Satellites have made predicting the weather easier, since they provide the most current information to forecasters. The more timely the data, the better the forecast.
Eric Stevens, the science liaison with the Geographic Information Network of Alaska, will speak about "Weather Satellites and Alaska" in the next installment of the 2015 Science for Alaska Lecture Series. The talk will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. at the Gold Room inside the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks lecture series is free and open to the public on Tuesday evenings through Feb. 24. This year, the Alaska Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research again joins the Geophysical Institute as a sponsor. The series, which began in the early 1990s, brings current scientific research to Alaskans.
