Sean McGee, former University of Alaska Fairbanks police chief, has been hired as a full-time instructor and the outreach coordinator for the homeland security and emergency management program in the UAF School of Management.
McGee has been with UAF in different capacities since 1985, recently retiring as the Fairbanks campus’ police chief. McGee was an instructor for the UAF Community and Technical College Law Enforcement Academy for 12 years. He has been an adjunct instructor for the HSEM program since 2012.
“I know the HSEM profession is growing rapidly,” McGee said. “I wanted to be a part of a program that recognizes the value of educating women and men who are going to make a difference in our nation’s ability to prepare for, mitigate, respond to, or recover from natural and man-made disasters.”
The HSEM program prepares students for a career where they will make an impact and shape the growing emergency services field. HSEM graduates are trained professionals ready to rise to the challenge of man-made, natural and technological disasters. The HSEM program is one of the fastest-growing degree programs at UAF. The program has gone from five declared majors five years ago to 140 declared majors today.
