'Selma' to be screened at UAF
January 17, 2017
In a belated celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, join the Nanook Diversity and Action Center for the film "Selma" in Arctic Java on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
"Selma" portrays the three months in 1965 when King and supporters faced violent opposition to their campaign seeking equal voting rights for black Americans. After their march from Selma to Montgomery, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act, one of the civil rights movement's greatest victories.
Ava DuVernay directed the film and David Oyelowo played the part of King.
