Seminar to discuss the 2014-2016 El Nino event
April 11, 2016
Early snow melting in Fairbanks, coral bleaching in Hawaii and catastrophic droughts
in Zimbabwe and El Salvador are just a few of the climate and ecosystem disruptions
that can be partly attributed to the 2014-2016 El Nino event.
The Institute of Marine Science and the International Arctic Research Center will
host a joint seminar on this topic from 3:30–4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in O’Neill
Building 201.
The presenter will be Axel Timmermann, professor of oceanography of the International
Pacific Research Center at the University of Hawaii.
Timmermann will discuss the dynamics, strength and predictability of the 2014-2016
El Nino event, as well as its impacts on ocean currents, weather events and ecosystems
throughout the world.
