The UA Board of Regents will meet Sept. 15-16 in Juneau to take up critical issues ranging from options suggested in Phase I of Strategic Pathways to a preliminary review of the proposed university fiscal year 2018 budget request.

UA President Jim Johnsen will share with the regents his thoughts and possible recommendations based on options suggested by Phase I Strategic Pathways review teams. Strategic Pathways is the framework the University of Alaska is using to improve service to the state.

In addition to Strategic Pathways and the FY18 budget, which will include ideas for tuition and enrollment, regents also will discuss:

  • Pursuing a general revenue bond package for completing the UAF engineering building, which marks the final step in the project;

  • A report on single accreditation versus three separately accredited universities;

  • Johnsen’s first year performance review and compensation; and,

  • An update on Title IX.

The September meeting also marks the beginning of a new way the board engages with the public. A two-hour teleconference with the board was to take place from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 6. The opportunity to call in for public testimony greatly expands access for individuals who cannot attend meetings in person, take time off of work, or otherwise make it to the regular meeting. Members of the public wishing to testify can dial in by calling 866-726-0757.

The Sept. 6 public testimony was to air on KUAC-FM HD2 and stream on KUAC2 at www.kuac.org. The audio will play on computers, laptops, mobile phones and most other handheld devices with internet capability.

Regents also will hold an evening gathering from 5:30-7 p.m. at the UAS Student Rec Center in Juneau on Sept. 15.

Written testimony also can be submitted to ua-bor@alaska.edu.

Audit, academic and student affairs, and facilities and land management committees are meeting via video conferencing Sept. 8-9. The committee and full board meetings are streamed online. Links to videostreaming and agendas are located at http://www.alaska.edu/bor/agendas/.
