The University of Alaska Museum of the North is offering hands-on programs that explore plants this September.

At “Family Day: Plants” from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, visitors can make a plant press and talk to museum botanists. There is no admission fee for children 14 and under, thanks to support from Saltchuk.

Other programs are included with admission. Early Explorers, for children 5 and under, meets each Friday from 10 a.m.-noon. Junior Curators, for kids 6 and up, is offered Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. The theme for Saturday, Sept. 19, is baskets.

The museum is also offering two art workshops to make ornaments for the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree, which is coming from Alaska for the first time. These require advance registration and a fee.
