The Fairbanks campus will look a little more Elizabethan this summer.

For the first time, Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre will hold its summer drama camps on campus. For three weeks in June, the Gruening Building and the Fine Arts Complex will resound with the sounds of 8-18 year-olds finding their feet on the stage as they learn about acting, movement, improvisation and performance.

"FST's summer camps are a terrific chance for kids to discover the magic of theater," said Rebecca George, Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre's managing director. "It's a fun and supportive environment, and there are opportunities for everyone to participate, whether they're a scene-stealer or the shyest person in the room."

The camps are separated into "Groundlings" (ages 13-18) and "Fledglings" (ages 8-12). Both camps are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Groundlings camp runs June 9-27 and costs $600, while Fledglings Camp runs June 16-27 and costs $400. There is a 10 percent military discount for both.

The camps will culminate in a production of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," directed by guest teaching artist Kat Wodtke. Performances will be June 27, 28 and 29 in the UAF Lab Theater and will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.
