'Shakespeare Uncovered' in Alaska
January 6, 2015
Join KUAC and the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre for a special series of events surrounding
the second season of "Shakespeare Uncovered," which returns to public broadcasting
in February to tell the stories behind Shakespeare’s greatest plays.
Local events leading up to the series include:
- Jan. 23, 1–3 p.m., Shakespearean "Afternoon Concert" on KUAC FM.
- Jan. 28, 10–11 p.m., "Alaska Live" featuring a new FST production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on KUAC FM.
- Jan. 31, 4–6 p.m., free public event and early screening of the "Shakespeare Uncovered" exploration of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and scenes from FST's upcoming Gwich’in-inspired production of the same name. Also enjoy a panel discussion about the inspiration and language behind the production. The events will be in the Davis Concert Hall at UAF.
Like the first series, the second installment of "Shakespeare Uncovered" combines history, biography, iconic performances, new analysis and the personal passions and experiences of its celebrated hosts.
KUAC TV will broadcast the series at 9 p.m. on the first three Thursday nights in February:
- Feb. 5, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with Hugh Bonneville, followed by “King Lear” with Christopher Plummer.
- Feb. 12, “The Taming of the Shrew” with Morgan Freeman, followed by “Othello” with David Harewood.
- Feb. 19, “Antony and Cleopatra” with Kim Cattrall, followed by “Romeo and Juliet” with Joseph Fiennes.
In addition, two other KUAC events will touch on Shakespeare in February:
- Feb. 8, 12-4 p.m., the Metropolitan Opera’s “Macbeth” featuring commentary from the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre on KUAC FM.
- Feb. 16-20, live drop-ins to Bard-a-thon during "Afternoon Concert" on KUAC FM.
